Pray for Creation Care

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Creation Care.

Topic suggested by Lynn Green in England and written by Christy Summerton, Phil Summerton and Ben Richards from Scotland and Richard Leakey from Switzerland. Photo of a Farming God’s Way demonstration farm in Kenya; supplied by Richard Leakey.

In Genesis God created mankind to “Abad” and “Shamar” all of creation. These terms in Hebrew can be interpreted in many ways but when used together mean to serve and take great care over. It is also the role that the priests are given in the Old Testament for the nation of Israel, to represent God to those they are looking after but also represent those they are looking after to God. How are we representing God to all of creation and how are we representing all of creation to God? Please take a moment to pray for creation right now as it is part of our God-given responsibility  and please also pray with us on December 8, our prayer day for YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation.

  1. Pray for restoration of biodiversity in areas where there has been great loss. Rich biodiversity is vital for the natural God-created systems on earth to function well. Without this variety of life, areas that would otherwise have been very productive become barren deserts. This in turn leads to the suffering of the people who rely on these areas for their livelihood and food. Please pray for the communities that have been negatively impacted by the loss of biodiversity.
  2. Pray for the countries being impacted by plastic waste. While plastic has been an amazing innovation, it also takes hundreds to thousands of years to degrade and can end up in our food and water. According to a report from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) in Feb 2022,plastic consumption has quadrupled over the last 30 years. All around the world plastic is being burned, releasing harmful gasses, blocking drains and causing floods or being washed into the oceans via riverways, causing harm to fish and other aquatic life that people rely on for food. Pray for continued innovative ways for us to step away from plastic, especially single-use plastic. Please also pray for the funding to scale up these pioneering biodegradable methods.
  3. Pray for those in the world that are experiencing unusual weather extremes. We can see this in Nigeria’s extreme flooding, Europe’s low rainfall, fires and floods, East Africa’s two-year drought and India and Pakistan’s very long heat wave this year – plus many other regions. These people need relief and rebuilding. Please pray for YWAM’s ongoing pioneering efforts to provide aid. Please also pray for ways to reduce the levels of climate pollution that continue to make these things worse. In addition, please pray for more God-centered solutions to provide nutritious food for all people.

Take Action

  1. Create a pollinator-friendly area in your location to benefit the local pollinating insect populations. This can be planting pots of native wildflowers or allowing an area of grass to grow long and not mow it through your growing season to give the insects a rich feeding area.
  2. Look at changing your light bulbs to LED bulbs if you have not already. They consume much less power, both saving money and reducing the amount of excess gasses contributing to climate pollution.
  3. Part of our challenge when we think of creation care is to find God-centered solutions. Farming God’s way is a great example developed by an African farmer. Read more about this example at https://www.farming-gods-way.org/overview.htm

Pray for YWAM’s Discipleship Training Schools

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for YWAM’s Discipleship Training Schools.

Topic suggested by R. G. in Indonesia and written by Joshua Jayraj in England. Photo supplied by YWAM Rogaland, Norway.

The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is a core initiative within YWAM. It is a six-month long program, the purpose of which is to equip and prepare students to understand their own identity in Christ, as well as what God’s purpose is for their lives. Available in almost every part of the world, the DTS combines classroom-based lectures with practical outreach and enables personal reflection, community living and small group activities to create a holistic combination of theory and practice. Please take a moment to pray for YWAM’s DTSes right now and please also pray with us on November 10, our prayer day for YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation.

  1. Please pray regarding the lingering effects of COVID-19 – Many have lost loved ones in the pandemic, please pray that they would be comforted and feel God’s peace in this difficult time. Please also pray for wisdom for those in DTS leadership to be able to navigate the various and ongoing COVID developments, so that we may act wisely and with care and diligence (Psalm 119:76).
  2. Please pray for the DTS in Ternopil Ukraine – Please pray for YWAM staff and DTS students in Ternopil, Ukraine. On October 9th and 11th it was reported that there were explosions in Ternopil which resulted in casualties and death. Please pray for God’s protection and for hope to abound not just at our DTS location in Ternopil, but in the entire city and indeed the entire nation.
  3. Please pray for the God’s Story DTS – In 2018, in order to make the DTS more accessible for many unreached communities around the world (an estimate of 80 percent of those communities are oral learners and communicators), an oral version of the DTS was introduced. The God’s Story DTS (GSDTS) has a focus on discussions of biblical narratives as well as discursive Bible studies. The first GSDTS took place in Salatiga Indonesia in August of 2019, and by 2021 there were GSDTS locations in Malawi, Mexico, and three more in Indonesia. Today, five more schools are planned in Indonesia, as well as in Ivory Coast, Panama, Florida and Michigan. Please pray a prayer of thanks for the growth of this school as well as a prayer of guidance for the extended plans for the God’s Story DTS (Proverbs 19:21).
  4. Please pray for our DTS students around the world – We are living through interesting times and discipleship is just as important as it has ever been, perhaps even more so. As such, please pray that our current DTS students will continually encounter God on their respective DTS programs, and will learn the true meaning of discipleship in order to be apprentices of Jesus. Please also pray for a greater awareness of Discipleship Training Schools among young people who could benefit from them.

Pray to End Bible Poverty

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying to End Bible Poverty.

Topic suggested by Loren Cunningham and written by Seth Aumock from YWAM’s End Bible Poverty Now ministry. Photo taken from Unsplash – photographer Aaron Burden.

Throughout YWAM’s history Bible distribution has been an important part of our mission’s work. In the last few decades, more organizations have begun to collaborate with YWAM who have the same heart to translate and distribute the Bible. In late 2014 several YWAM leaders, including YWAM’s co-founders Loren and Darlene Cunningham, visited Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican and Evangelical leaders around the world, urging them to do all they could to help end Bible poverty. There was great unity of purpose around this theme among these influential leaders. As a result, “The Covenant to End Bible Poverty” (ywam.org/a-covenant-to-end-bible-poverty) was written, calling on Christians everywhere to pray, translate, publish, distribute, educate and motivate people for Bible engagement. It is our hope that intercessors will be raised up so that there is 24/7 prayer for those without Bibles to get them. Please take a moment to pray right now and please also pray with us on October 13, our prayer day for YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation.

  1. Pray for translation and publication. Please pray for innovation to continue so that translation and publication can happen quickly and accurately.
  2. Pray for distribution. Please pray for donors to continue to partner and give financially so that Bibles can be distributed to the nations. Pray that the body of Christ would continue to be informed and choose to do outreaches and mission trips with Bible distribution as a main focus.
  3. Pray for education. After people have received a Bible, we believe providing biblically sound teaching is at the epicenter of the discipleship process for people around the world to have a grounded understanding of God’s Word. Please pray that believers in other nations would have access to Biblical teachings and revelation from the Holy Spirit as they read Scripture.
  4. Pray for the Habakkuk Initiative. God has given us vision as a mission to not only end bible poverty around the world but to disciple all nations as Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19. The goal of the Habakkuk initiative is to holistically disciple 80 nations in 10 years. To do this we need partnership and motivation from local churches who will carry the bulk of this task to reach their cities and nation. Please pray that local churches in these countries will be moved by the Holy Spirit to commit to see their nation reached with the Bible and that more YWAM staff would join this initiative to see it through.

Pray for Ukraine

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Ukraine.

Topic suggested by the YWAM Slavic Ministries team in the USA and written by Joshua Jayraj in England. Photo of a food delivery, by YWAM Ukraine.

It has now been nearly six months since the first bomb was burdened upon Ukraine, laying the foundations of an agonizing war that has now killed thousands, and displaced millions more. As this war in Ukraine continues, so does the work of the YWAM teams in Ukraine as well as the surrounding territories. Your prayers to support these teams are treasured and appreciated. Please take a moment to pray right now and please also pray with us on September 8, on our prayer day for YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation.

  1. Pray for the neighboring countries. According to a recent article by The Guardian, there are more than six million refugees from Ukraine currently, of which 90 percent are women and children. This is now the largest refugee crisis since World War II. The countries taking in the largest volumes of refugees are Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova. Please pray that these countries are provided with the resources necessary to take care of the refugees currently seeking help, and please pray for Christians in these countries, including YWAM teams, who are caring for the needs of refugees.
  2. Pray for YWAM’s teams in Ukraine. The YWAM teams in Ukraine continue to deliver food, medicine and other essentials to victims of the war. They face food and water shortages, sanitization issues and of course the threat of death.
  3. Pray for Russia. Please pray not only for those in Russia who are against this war, but for those who are for it.
  4. Pray for holistic healing. Not only has this war caused casualties and wounds, but it has caused invisible wounds; those pertaining to relationships, mental health and spiritual health. Please pray for the immediate and ongoing healing needed in all of these areas.

Pray for Survivors of Trafficking

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Survivors of Trafficking.

Topic suggested on The Invitation Survey by a former YWAM student.
Content and photo used with permission from the prayer guide, 15 Days of Prayer to End Exploitation.

This month, please join us as we pray for the long-term survivors of sexual exploitation. There are more allies in anti-trafficking efforts than ever before, but there is still a huge shortage of beds and residential services which can provide safety and trauma-informed care to both adult and minor victims, especially those who have their own children. Please join us this August in YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation as we pray for these victims of exploitation. Please take a moment to pray right now and please also join us on our prayer day, August 11.

  1. Pray for the ones who have been rescued. Pray that victims would become survivors who thrive, experiencing abundant life, supportive community, and joy. One survivor in Canada writes “But now I see a new light! I see people differently. I walk by faith, and my hope is not in this life nor in humanity. Jesus is faithful to his promises, He heard my cry and because of this I know I am never alone.” Pray for more testimonies like this one!
  2. Pray for the ones involved in this ministry. Pray for those who are ministering to people still trapped in trafficking. Pray for ministry leaders and survivor mentors. This is a hard and sometimes overwhelming journey (Romans 15:13). Pray for more residential services for survivors of trafficking, and for more caregivers with trauma-informed training.
  3. Pray for transformation in mindsets around the world. In one Indian brothel, Nepali sex workers were asked why they stayed in their work, even though they hated it. They gave answers like this: “My family has so much debt and soon will lose our small plot of land where we grow our food. They need me to pay off their debts.” Without good income-generating options the poor are vulnerable to exploitation at the hands of others who make a profit from them. Pray for cultures and governments so that women’s bodies are respected and valued, and families have options for survival (Galatians 2:10).

Take Action

  1. Do research and ask questions to find out who in your area is actively engaged in fighting trafficking and what their needs are. If you are looking to start an anti trafficking business we would love to help! We would gladly share what we have learned and coach you to make an impact through your business or ministry. You can contact matt@kairostraders.com if you have any questions.

Pray for Cuba

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Cuba.

Topic suggested on The Invitation Survey by a current YWAM staff, and written by Daniel L. in Mexico. Photo of Havana, Cuba by Dorothea Oldani on Unsplash.

On July 11, 2021 a major protest took place in Cuba. Many people throughout the country voiced their displeasure, using the slogan “Homeland, Life and Freedom.” They were complaining about food, medicine and power shortages, as well as the government’s response to Covid. This was unusual in a nation where protests are not allowed and it highlighted the ongoing needs in the country. Please join YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation as we pray for the spiritual and economic wellbeing of Cuba. Please take a moment to pray right now and please also join us on our prayer day, July 14.

  1. Pray for churches and believers. The government seeks to control and limit church influence. They usually refuse to issue licenses for new churches. As a result, these churches have to operate underground. Church leaders or Christian activists can face arrest, churches can be locked down and businesses can be harassed. Pray for believers, that God would give them wisdom and strength. Pray for them to love God in spite of persecution.
  2. Pray for provision. In Cuba, there are shortages of necessities like medicine, food and toiletries. These can be found at high prices but ordinary people often cannot afford them.
  3. Pray for freedom from oppression. After the protests in Cuba on July 11, 2021 hundreds were imprisoned. Pray for these prisoners and for tolerance of dissidents in the nation.
  4. Pray for the response to Covid. As people have gotten sick with Covid some hospitals and health centers have run out of medical supplies and some have become overcrowded. Pray that God would care for these people.

Pray for Buddhist Students

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Buddhist Students.

Topic recommended by S.F. in USA; written by the editor of 15 Days of Prayer for the Buddhist World.
Photo by Mimi Thian on Unsplash.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of young people from Buddhist families go overseas to study, from countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, and China. They are often open to studying the Bible with Christian friends or hosts, particularly if they are drawn to their lives of love, humility, or integrity. When these international students become Christians, they return home as Christ’s ambassadors in the heart of Buddhist communities. Please join YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation as we pray for Buddhist international students. Please take a moment to pray right now and please join us on our prayer day, June 9.

  1. Pray for Buddhist students to meet Christians who will live out and tell them the Gospel (1 Thessalonians 2:8).
  2. Pray for students from Buddhist nations to come to faith and be discipled (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Chi Yan was a keen Buddhist when she went to study engineering in the UK. She had been president of a Buddhist society at her home in Malaysia. But while at university, she became friends with some Christians, learned about Jesus from them and came to share their faith in Christ. Chi Yan says, “When I was baptized, it was very hard for my parents to accept it. Later, I came to see that I was proud of having discovered the truth and my attitude was wrong. When I went home, I told them I was there to serve them and be a faithful daughter.” Life in Malaysia hasn’t been easy for Chi Yan, but she perseveres in following Jesus and trying to be a loving witness.
  3. Pray that students who return home will find good churches in their home nations and keep sharing their faith, despite the pressure to maintain relational harmony (1 Thessalonians 2:2-4).

Take Action

If you would like to continue to pray for Buddhists please go to worldprayerguides.org and order “15 Days of Prayer for the Buddhist World.” In this prayer guide you will find stories from Tibet, Vietnam, Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, China and other places. Pray for Venezuela and Venezuelan Migrants

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Venezuela and Venezuelan Migrants.

Topic recommended by Yira Ibarra in Colombia; written by Daniel Leones in Mexico.
Photo of YWAM Cúcuta’s ministry to Venezuelan migrants in Colombia.

Twenty years ago, few Venezuelans would have imagined that their country, rich in natural resources, with large oil reserves, would become a place with so much corruption and such a poor economy that millions would choose to flee. Now, with government repression, and the highest inflation rate in the world, many people cannot afford basic food and medicine. Many have fled to countries throughout South America. Six million Venezuelans have left their country, ranking among the highest number of refugees in the world along with Ukrainians, Syrians, Palestinians and Afghans. Please join YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation as we pray for Venezuela and the many people who have left the country. Please take a moment to pray right now and please join us on our prayer day, May 12.

  1. Pray against labor and sexual exploitation, human trafficking, violence, discrimination and xenophobia. Venezuelan people who flee their country are victims of these harms. Many people do not have sufficient means of subsistence, therefore they’re an easy target for criminal groups.
  2. Pray for churches in Venezuela. The Covid crisis has put limits on ministry activities. People don’t want to get ill since medical attention is very expensive. Pray for unity, strengthening and revival for the church.
  3. Pray for Venezuela. Many Venezuelan people are looking to flee but others stay to deal with the difficulties like the rampant corruption, avarice, misery, conformism, and social injustice.
  4. Pray for YWAM ministry in Venezuela. Since the big economic difficulties, YWAM is growing up but slowly. There’s a need for more long-term staff at each location. Pray for unity and strength for the movement.
  5. Pray for the fulfillment of God’s purposes for Venezuela. Pray for a spiritual awakening in Venezuela that will lead to a transformation of the nation and its foundations.

Take Action

Consider how you can help God’s purposes for Venezuela. One suggestion: learn more about the work of YWAM Cúcuta, Colombia to help Venezuelan refugees. In this frontier city many migrants cross from Venezuela. You can get in touch with YWAM Cúcuta at facebook.com/jucumcucuta.

Pray for Myanmar

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Myanmar.

Topic suggested by J.H. in Southeast Asia, written by YWAM staff in Myanmar. Photo of YWAM food distribution in Myanmar.

February 1, 2022 marked the first anniversary of the coup in Myanmar, which plunged the nation and the lives of most of its people into chaos and turmoil. One year later, the nation is facing huge challenges and at the same time YWAM workers see equally huge opportunities. One of the leaders of YWAM’s work in Myanmar said, “I want to thank you for your ongoing prayer and support for the people of Myanmar. Knowing that the world has not forgotten them makes a big difference.” Please join YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation as we continue to pray for the people of Myanmar, who are trying to stand strong in the face of immense challenges. Please take a moment to pray right now and also pray on our prayer day, April 14.

  1. Pray for peace. Many parts of the country are experiencing an increase in violence. Although Yangon seems calm, other places are experiencing civil war, with several hundred thousand people being displaced. There is no end in sight to the conflict and so far all international attempts to help solve the crisis have failed. Please pray that the Lord will intervene and restore peace, justice and freedom. Also pray that God would protect the innocent and weak from violence and abuse.
  2. Pray for provision. The economic situation is very dire. Many have lost their jobs and some investors have pulled out. Pray for the economy to somehow pick up, so that people can be saved from desperate poverty. Pray for provision in YWAM’s work so that we can serve the many struggling poor people.
  3. Praise God for openness to the gospel. We are amazed how God is at work! The numbers of people turning to Christ are increasing almost everywhere. In the midst of the challenges and perhaps because of them, people are hungry for eternal truth, peace and freedom! As one example, an online evangelistic campaign has between three and five million views each month, with around 10,000 contact requests so far and over 1,000 serious inquirers wanting to know more about Jesus. Please pray that many more will find Christ and also pray for effective discipleship.
  4. Pray for YWAM’s ministry. Most of our teams have been busy distributing food and doing outreaches to poor communities. Two locations have restarted their preschools, with many children attending. One team ran a sewing training with 15 young women. Another location in the north of the country continues to run mini Discipleship Training Schools. Even in the midst of the current situation, a new YWAM location has been pioneered. Please pray for anointing and also protection for all our staff and ministry partners as they continue to boldly serve the poor and needy and declare the love of God in deed and word.

Pray for Ukraine

Thank you for joining us this month as we take up “The Invitation” and join together with thousands of YWAMers from around the world as we pray and hear from God. This month we will be praying for Ukraine.

Topic suggested and written by Al Akimoff and the YWAM Slavic Ministries team.
Photo: YWAMers deliver food to elderly women in Kyiv.

YWAM teams inside and outside of Ukraine are urgently providing assistance to people suffering from the war in that nation. Please pray for them and for the situation in Ukraine. YWAM began its work in Ukraine when the nation was still under Soviet rule. We now have teams in five locations. One of those locations, in Ternopil, has become the main refugee processing center in the city. In Kyiv YWAMers are delivering food to people in need and driving hundreds to safe shelter. Other YWAM teams in countries surrounding Ukraine have been helping refugees. Those countries include Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Moldova, and others. Please pray with us for Ukraine, for the refugees from Ukraine, and for YWAM’s work to care for the victims of this tragedy. Please join YWAM’s prayer initiative called The Invitation and pray right now and join us on our prayer day, March 10.

  1. Pray for peace and for miracles. Our battle lies not with flesh and blood (Eph 6:2). As the YWAM family, let us pray as the Holy Spirit leads and let’s go deeper than just what the news shows us
  2. Pray for YWAM’s ministry in Ukraine. In Kyiv YWAMers are risking their lives to deliver food to people in need or to drive children or adults to shelter. Our YWAM location in Ternopil is now the main refugee processing center for the city. They need help with food, bedding and other supplies for themselves and the many thousands they are serving. They are working with pastors throughout the city to find space for refugees. The mayor recently called them to say 6,000 more refugees are on their way.
  3. Pray for refugees from Ukraine, including our own YWAMers. Pray for YWAM’s efforts to help these refugees in Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Moldova, Germany, and other nations.
  4. Pray for people in Russia who oppose the invasion. Many are taking bold steps to speak out. This is a challenging time for YWAM’s work in Russia and Belarus

In Ternopil, Ukraine a YWAM volunteer sleeps in the office after a night of caring for refugees
